Quail tips for beginners

One of the most pressing issues facing the novice perepelovodom - lack of experience and the necessary information to get started. I want to give some basic information to the visitors of my site, who think to breed quails. These tips are not in any way claim to be complete and comprehensive course for beginner perepelovoda, but I think that they can help you avoid some errors that occur at the beginning of your work.

1. Identify the purpose and the amount of quail that you want to grow.
The very first thing that you need to decide - this is the purpose for which you want to begin raising quail. On this depends the number on your home quail farm. It can be considered four options:
1) up to 20 birds. An amount sufficient to ensure the needs of you and your family valuable quail eggs.
2) up to 100 birds. In this case, apart from ensuring their families, some quail eggs may go on sale, bringing to 1,000 rubles per month extra income.
3) from 500 to 1,000 birds. This is the semi-content. Revenue from the sale may be considerably higher, but you need to organize a market.
4) More than 1000 birds. This is the industrial (or farm content). In addition to the market there are a number of issues, such as processing business, the presence of a person (or more) for permanent care for quails, the availability of appropriate facilities for their maintenance, etc.
2. Decide on a place (room) for the content of quail.
To maintain the quail area must ensure the maintenance of its temperature of about 16 - 22 ° C throughout the year, and the relative humidity of 60 - 70%.
1) if the number of birds to 20 units, this question can not be considered. Place of detention can be any part of an apartment or private house, where you can place a cell the size of the bottom of the order of 40 x 60 cm
2) if the number of birds to 100 pieces for their content need to multi-tier (tier 3 or 4) cell battery. To accommodate this cell battery you need a corner room with a floor area of about 0.6 x 1.2 m and height of the wall 1 8 m.
3) if the number of quail from 500 to 1000 for their maintenance premises to an area of 12 - 15 square meters. m. This area can accommodate up to 10 - 12 cell batteries. Also need additional space to house the incubator (s), the hover area for the content of the young, a utility room for storage and preparation of food.
4) if the number of quail over 1000. Floor area will have more than 20 - 30 square meters. m. Properly will need to increase the size and utility rooms.
3. Think about questions of manufacture (or acquisition) of the cells to maintain quail.
Cages for quail in the majority - homemade. For the manufacture of welded galvanized mesh required, plywood, hardware, galvanized steel sheets. Right, decide on how they will be made - you'll do them yourself, or order in the art (if such exists).
1) in the manufacture of a single cell for 20 quail You will need about 1 square. m grid.
2) the manufacture of a single cell battery of 100 quail You will need about 4.5 square meters. m galvanized mesh, 0.6 square meters. m of plywood, 1.5 square meters.meters of sheet metal.
3) 10 - 12 cell battery grids will need 45 - 50 square meters. m, 6 - 7 kV. meters of plywood and 15 - 16 square meters. meters of sheet metal.
4) in the manufacture of more cell battery (1000 quail and more), multiply the value of the materials specified in Section 2. on the required number of cell batteries, taking as a basis the fact that the battery is placed in a 90 - 100 quail. Boris Kovalenko.
4. Calculate your financial opportunities.
Calculate how much money you need to initially invest in the purchase of necessary equipment and quail. In the calculations, I'm taking the average price of one adult bird = 50 rubles. (This is the price we have in the Krasnodar region. In other regions, it may be different, so the calculation guided by their prices). The average cost of materials (again, according to our local prices) per cell battery ~ 1550 rub. Average cost of an incubator let it be 900 r.
1) so the first option - 20 birds. The cost of the birds 20 x 50 p = 1,000 rubles. Cage ~ 200 rubles, not an incubator. Total -1200 rubles.
2) 100 birds. They cost 5,000 rubles. 1550 plus cell battery, plus a 900 - incubator.Total 7450 rubles.
3) from 500 to 1,000 birds. The cost of the birds from 25 to 50 thousand rubles. The cost of cell batteries (12 pieces) - 18600, plus the 900 - an incubator. Total - from 24.5 to 79.5 thousand rubles.
4) More than 1,000 birds - the sum of more than 80 thousand rubles.
Of course, I took into account the fact that you will be immediately ready to purchase a bird in the required amount, which is not quite true, since most of the birds can be derived independently, in an incubator. Then you need to calculate the cost of output.
It should be guided by the following: the average percentage of the output to take 75 - 80 (ie, one hundred eggs laid in the incubator hatched quail 80). Of these, up to 10% may die (attrition during growth) or to be discarded due to physical defects. Total adult quail is 70 - 72 pc. Statistics on the average number of males and females in the same conclusion about the same. That is, you will have approximately 35 - 36 chickens from hundreds of laid eggs for incubation. Now think how much you need to incubate the eggs and the cost to obtain the required number of layers, and over what period you will be able to hold their incubation (capacity Incubator), etc. Boris Kovalenko.
5. Think about the questions, who will serve your quail farm.
Any content of the birds require daily care for her. This feeding, cleaning and litter collection and examination of birds eggs. I'm not talking about what to cook and feed, monitor (and maintain) the optimum temperature and humidity, bird seat on the growth of cells in young animals. Finally conduct slaughtering and butchering poultry reared for meat. All this takes time. When the concentration of up to 100 birds, the average total time, which would you go for care can be taken as one hour a day. When the number of birds up to 1000 it already can be up to 3 - 5 hours. Finally, when the number of birds, more than 1,000 pieces, you will need more than 5 - 6 hours to care for them. And this time duration is stretched to full daylight, which is fully occupied. That is, Feeding and the morning cleaning cells, feeding daytime, evening feeding and egg collection. I do not take this into account while preparing for (or purchase) of feed, as well as the time you'll spend on the implementation of your product.
6. Finally, the last - just think over a market.
If you want to breed quails in a small amount (up to 100 pieces), this issue can be ignored. That medical products, you will have to be spending on your family and your friends and acquaintances. But if you want to do once perepelovodstvom to obtain a certain income, which includes production of quail eggs and quail meat diet, ie e.contain quail on options 3 and 4, this issue must be solved in advance, before the start of quail. After all, revenue from this production can be obtained only streamlined marketplace. Therefore, immediately identify which outlets (or markets, cafes, restaurants, holiday homes and camp sites, etc.) in your city or surrounding area (regional) center can implement the product. What is the average daily requirement of all these points in the products perepelovodstva (as needed quail eggs and carcasses in the day, week, month). From this value depends directly on your farm livestock. What documents (what organizations) need to pass your products in retail outlets, etc.
Learn also about whether there is in your (or nearest) settlements are people already involved in perepelovodstvom, if so, how they organized market.
An important fact will be an advertising company that promotes the benefits of quail eggs. Its implementation depends entirely on local conditions, your desires and opportunities ... Consider also how to organize it. Find someone (or people) that quail eggs have helped improve health - they can become your allies in the spread of your products.
